Message from the Chair NHS Pharmaceutical Aseptic Services Group

Dear Colleagues,
Further to my previous communications on this subject, and for your information, the advice note in relation to the testing commissioned by BBraun on their NRFit lock syringes with GBUK syringe caps is now available on the PASG website at www.pasg.nhs.uk/pasg-guidance . The delay has been due to the need to repeat the integrity tests which as you’ll see still aren’t acceptable! This means if there is a supply issue with GBUK NRFit syringes NHS Pharmacy aseptic units won’t be able to substitute BBraun syringes for drug storage e.g. intrathecal chemotherapy, epidurals etc.
Clearly this is not what we had hoped for as an outcome from these tests, but at least we know where we stand.
David Lovett
Chair NHS Pharmaceutical Aseptic Services Group
